About Our Troop

Boy Scout Troop 254 meets every Tuesday Evening at 7:30 at Chinese Baptist Church in Seattle. We are affiliated with the Thunderbird District in the Chief Seattle Council. We are one of the most active troops in our area. Outings our troop goes on include backpacking trips, bike trips, igloo, and summer camp. The troop recently expanded to three patrols for the first time. Troop 254 originally started as Troop 54 way back in 1923. Since then, it has produced many leaders in the community. Please come to a meeting and discover the fun of scouting!

How Our Troop Works

Here are the parts that make up Troop 254 and keep everything up and running:

The Charter- A troop cannot exist without a charter organization. The organization is granted a charter by the Boy Scouts of America. The organization provides funding for the troop, as well as a place to hold meetings. Our charter is Chinese Baptist Church.

The Scoutmaster- The Scoutmaster is an adult leader that is in charge of keeping everything together in the troop. He helps the Scouts develop into young adults. The Scoutmaster works with everyone within the troop- assistant scoutmasters, scouts, senior patrol leaders, and parents. He will often give advice, trust, and knowledge to his scouts.

The Senior Patrol Leader- The Senior Patrol Leaders is the top scout. He is in charge of running troop meetings and overseeing the overall success of the troop. He also works closely with the patrol leaders. The SPL chooses an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader who helps run the troop and fills in when he is absent. In our troop, the SPL is elected by his fellow scouts each year.

The Patrol Leaders- Each patrol in the troop has a patrol leader who is elected anually. A patrol leader must make sure each member of his patrol is making progress in scouting. When his patrol is down, he must bring spirits back up. He also works with the Senior Patrol Leader to ensure the well-being of the patrol. The patrol leader represents his patrol at PLC meetings.

The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC)- The PLC is made up of all the troop leadership- the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, senior leadership, patrol leaders, and assistant senior patrol leaders. The PLC meets several times a year and plans out troop meeting agendas and outings. They take suggestions from the scouts and parents and maps out the activities.
